Garry Melia, Board Member

Garry is a helicopter captain for a Part 91 Massachusetts-headquartered corporate flight department.  He currently coordinates their fixed and rotor wing flight operations quality assurance programs.  He previously served as safety manager, overseeing their ISBAO Stage 3 safety program.  Before that, he held the position of rotor wing assistant chief pilot. Prior to his business aviation career, Garry held positions as Sales Engineer, Project Manager and Account Executive for a national engineering, construction, and service company where he managed sales, installation, and service of commercial building automation systems throughout New England. A graduate of the United States Military Academy, he served 7 years on active duty in the U.S. Army followed by 15 years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.  Garry retired as a Chief Warrant Officer and Master Army Aviator, having held numerous positions of responsibility in the U.S and overseas, including command and staff assignments.  He has served on the MBAA Board of Directors since 2019.  In 2023, Garry received the NBAA Tony Kern Professionalism in Aviation Award.  In 2025, he was honored as the Eastern Region Helicopter Council’s Pilot of the Year.
